Back in the day, the phone company saw its purpose as providing a service for making voice calls. A simple purpose. This was how they made money. They were proud to provide this service.
One day the desire for more money overshadowed their purpose as a public service, and now the service is not for you, but for them to find ways to track you, sell information about you, and sell products to you. The purpose was no longer the public good. The purpose was more money and power.
Communication services and social media, under the modern corporation, are not for you, but for investors and those who want power. I dislike this.
To use a Star Trek quote, "I have no idea what I should do ... I only know what I can do." And, what I can do is run free public service alternatives.
